Changes to the curriculum for the upcoming winter semester 2023/24

27/06/2023

The following changes in the study plans will come into effect in the winter semester 2023/24:

Bachelor Applied Geosciences

  • The module "Introduction to Organic Chemistry and Geochemistry" will be taught bilingually in the future.
  • The combined exam in the module "Geoscientific Working Methods: Geoinformation Systems and Remote Sensing" will be split into two individual exams
  • The examination form of the course "Site Investigation" changes from homework to project work.
  • The module "Introduction to Geophysical Prospecting" is discontinued, as it will be offered in English in the future as the module "Introduction to Geophysical Prospecting".
  • The title of the module "Repository Concepts for Geoscientists" is changed to "Repository Concepts". The content does not change.
  • The examination form of the course "Electron Microscopy: Methods and Applications" changes from oral examination to written examination.
  • The seminar "Geomaterials" will be offered in English as "Current Research Topics in Mineralogy and Crystallography".
  • The lecture "Crystal Chemistry" will be offered as lecture and tutorial in the same extent as before.
  • The new study plan can be found here: study plan

Bachelor of Georesource Management

  • The module "Introduction to Organic Chemistry and Geochemistry" will be taught bilingually in the future.
  • The module "Raw Materials and Recycling" will be discontinued and replaced by the new module "Sustainable Material Cycles".
  • The examination form of the course "Introduction to Remote Sensing Methods" changes from written examination to project work.
  • The title of the lecture "Soil Erosion" is extended to "Soil Erosion, Desertification and Landscape Degradation".
  • The title of the module "Repository Concepts for Geoscientists" is changed to "Repository Concepts". The content does not change.

Master Applied Geosciences

  • Major in Geotechnical Engineering (GIN)
  • The module "Geophysics I: Theory of Geophysical Prospection Methods" is replaced by the module "Geophysical Imaging and Monitoring Methods". One of the two modules must be passed in the compulsory section.
  • The module "Geophysics II: Application of Geophysical Prospection Methods in Earth and Environmental Science" is replaced by the module "Inverse Methods for Geoscientists". One of the two modules must be passed in the compulsory section.
  • Specialization Applied Mineralogy and Crystallography (AMC)
  • The lecture "X-ray and Neutron Scattering in Material Research" will be offered as lecture and tutorial in the same extent as before.
  • In the module "Geomaterials in Environment and Technology (incl. Lab Course)" the CP distribution between the three courses changes
  • Specialization Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR)
  • The module "Petrophysics and Fluid Transport and Storage in Rocks" changes from the Chair of Geology, Geochemistry and Deposits of Petroleum and Coal (Prof. Littke) to the Chair of Engineering and Hydrogeology (Prof. Amann).
  • The module "Geophysics I: Theory of Geophysical Prospection Methods" is replaced by the module "Geophysical Imaging and Monitoring Methods". Only one of the two modules can be chosen.
  • The module "Geophysics II: Application of Geophysical Prospection Methods in Earth and Environmental Science" is replaced by the module "Inverse Methods for Geoscientists". Only one of the two modules can be chosen.
  • The elective module "Repository Design and Processes" is new introduced.
  • The elective module "Petroleum Systems" will be offered for the last time in winter semester 2023/24.
  • The new study plan can be found here: study plan

Master Applied Geophysics

  • The module "Petrophysics for Applied Geophysics" is exchanged for the module "Petrophysics and Fluid Transport and Storage in Rocks". With the transfer from the Chair of Geology, Geochemistry and Deposits of Petroleum and Coal (Prof. Littke) to the Chair of Engineering and Hydrogeology (Prof. Amann) only the practical course changes.
  • The module "Geophysics II: Application of Geophysical Prospection Methods in Earth and Environmental Science" is replaced by the module "Inversion Concepts for multi-method Geophysics". Only one of the two modules can be chosen.
  • The examination form of the course "Underground Excavation" changes from written examination to project work.
  • The new study plan can be found here: study plan

Master Engineering Geohazards

  • Change in the admission requirements: Only 15 CP from natural science modules and 30 CP from geoscience modules are required for access.
  • The number of possible requirements will be increased from 20 CP to 30 CP. This will allow students to be admitted who previously had to be rejected.
  • Access to the program will also be opened for the summer semester.
  • Grading of the professional internship will no longer be carried out.
  • There are no changes to the study plan.

Master of Georesource Management

  • Compulsory course:
  • E-tests will be introduced in the course "Internal Accounting and Bookkeeping" for admission to the written exam.
  • Specialization Environmental Management (UMA)
  • The two lectures "Sustainability Assessment: Fundamentals" and "Sustainability Assessment: Methods" in the elective module "Sustainability Assessment" are combined into one 4-hour lecture/exercise "Sustainability Assessment".
  • The elective module "Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Engineering Experimentation" will be discontinued. The total number of elective modules in the major is thus reduced from 18 to 17.
  • In the elective module "Mining, Energy and Resource Enterprise and Technology Management", the elective option "Technology and Globalization" will be discontinued after the winter semester 2023/24.
  • Specialization in Petroleum and Energy Management (REM)
  • The elective module "Petroleum Systems" will be offered for the last time in winter semester 2023/24.
  • In the elective module "Mining, Energy and Resource Enterprise and Technology Management", the elective option "Technology and Globalization" will be dropped after the winter semester 2023/24.
