On this autumn day in 2022, the field near Eilendorf in the vicinity of Aachen looks as if the world has come to an end. Torrents of water fall from the dark gray sky into the trench that scientists have dug and are now hurriedly trying to cover. Beneath the sheeting, a cut into the earth disappears, revealing a significant shift in the soil. At least two very strong earthquakes have left their mark here.
