Lateral Entry into higher semesters

Basics

The Bachelor's and Master's degree programs "Applied Geosciences" and "Georesource Management" are open admission for students from the second semester onwards. In order to be classified in the second (or higher) semester, at least 20 (or 40, 60, ...) credit points must be available for the respective study program. For the crediting, the conditions of the respective new study program apply according to the study plan valid at the time of the change.

In order to minimize the length of study time for students who change programs, the basic science modules (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) in the bachelor's degree programs should be completed when entering the third semester or partially when entering the second semester.

In order to enroll in a higher semester, a placement certificate and a clearance certificate from the responsible examination board are required in advance. An overview of the enrollment deadlines can be found here.

In any case, please contact the Student Advisory Service as early as possible and ask for advice regarding a change.

Recognition of both positive and negative academic records

In principle, based on § 63a of the Hochschulgesetz of North Rhine-Westphalia, all equivalently recognizable, passed and failed examination records from all previous courses of study will be recognized upon application.

After receipt of your complete documents in due time, an examination of the recognizability of your submitted transcript of records will be carried out by the individual subject lecturers. This subject-specific comparability check (basis: content of the course, hours and credits) is based on the information in your module handbooks and can take 4-6 weeks. On the basis of the expert opinions of the subject lecturers, the examination board will issue a classification notice including a clearance certificate.
