A structured student mentoring program financed by tuition fees and quality improvement funds has been offered in the Applied Geosciences teaching unit since 2009. The goal of this integrative program is to improve studying and teaching by promoting key competencies of active and independent study at certain critical phases during the study programs.

The various mentorships are led by students from higher semesters in close consultation with the study coordinator. The cornerstones of the student mentoring program of the Department of Applied Geosciences are the following:
