Termination & Extension

The assignment of the Bachelor's or Master's thesis can only be returned once and only within the first month of the processing period in consultation with the first examiner. In the case of a repetition of a thesis, this option is only permitted if the first attempt at the thesis was not abandoned.

In justified exceptional cases, it is possible, upon application to the examination board in consultation with the first examiner, to extend the processing time of the Bachelor's thesis by a maximum of up to four weeks = 28 days or of the Master's thesis by a maximum of up to six weeks = 42 days. An extension is only possible once.

The reasons asserted for an extension may not be attributable to the student. Medical certificates cannot be taken into account. Students must also be enrolled in the degree programme during the extension phase of the thesis.

Extension applications for Bachelor's theses must be formulated, countersigned by the first examiner and submitted to the responsible examination board chairperson. Forms for the extension of Master's theses can be found in the forms cabinet. These can be handed in at the Student Advisory Service.
