The Master of Science (M.Sc.) is a second academic degree in the natural sciences or humanities, which is awarded by a certificate after a course of study completed with a university examination.

Building on a Bachelor's degree, the Master's degree is designed to enable students to work scientifically and methodically, to impart theoretical-analytical skills and to enable graduates to adapt openly and creatively to new conditions in professional life. The Master's degree qualifies for a profession and entitles the holder to a subsequent doctorate.

The Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering has already been offering six two-year Master's programmes, each with 120 ECTS, since the winter semester 2005/2006.
