The Division of Geosciences and Geography mourns the death of university professor

Dr. rer. nat. Monika Wolf

born on August 10, 1932 in Plauen

died on October 30, 2022 in Krefeld, Germany

Monika Wolf first studied and conducted research at the Technical University of Munich, where she received her doctorate in 1961. She received a research grant from the DFG (German Research Foundation) and subsequently worked at the Geological Survey of North Rhine-Westphalia in Krefeld from 1963, finally as a senior geologist.

In 1981 she followed the call to the RWTH and was professor at the Chair of Geology, Geochemistry and Deposits of Petroleum and Coal until her retirement in 1994.

Professor Wolf was a scientist by conviction and enjoyed passing on her great expertise to her students. She was particularly interested in the study of lignite and coal petrology. For her special commitment, Professor Wolf was honored with the Rheinhardt Thiessen Medal at the 47th Meeting of the International Commission for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCP) in Krakow in 1995.

With her death, the Division loses a highly respected colleague, successful scientist, and popular teacher. Our deepest sympathy goes to her family.
