Obituary for Prof. Zschocke
The Department of Geosciences and Geography bids farewell to Prof. Reinhart Zschocke.
Reinhard Zschocke was born on February 12, 1929 and studied at the University of Cologne, where he received his doctorate in 1958. After his habilitation he received the Venia Legendi at the RWTH Aachen University in 1968 and, until his retirement, the teaching and research area "Settlement and Cultural Geography" at the Institute of Geography.
Prof. Zschocke was a committed university lecturer whose scientific interests lay primarily in the urban, rural and historical geography of Central Europe. In the 1980s, he established the focus on tourism in the master's degree course in geography at the RWTH Aachen University, which was in great demand by the students with great interest.
With his death on April 23, 2020, the RWTH loses a highly esteemed colleague, successful scientist and popular teacher.
Our deepest sympathy goes to his family. We will always honour Prof. Zschocke's memory.
