Researchers led by Prof. Reicherter of the Institute for Neotectonics and Geohazards have for the first time found visible signs of three major earthquakes of magnitude 6 or more. Trenches along the Feldbiss fault show clear evidence of several strong earthquakes that could have occurred more than 10,000 to 15,000 years ago, according to Prof. Reicherter. With the help of further analysis techniques, the researchers hope to find out when and to what extent the earth shook at that time.
