Time to say hello & goodbye
After two years, Prof. Littke's regular term of office (2020-2022) as Division Chair of the Division of Earth Sciences and Geography ended on 30 September 2022. In addition to the Corona pandemic, his term of office also included numerous appointment procedures in the Applied Earth Sciences teaching unit. The department would like to express its sincere thanks to Prof. Littke, who has steered the department through these challenges in a prudent, results-oriented manner and with a steady hand.
On 1 October 2022, Prof. Reicherter will take over the office of Division Spokesperson from Prof. Littke for two years. In this role, he is the contact person for all matters concerning the Department of Earth Sciences and Geography and at the same time the spokesperson for the group of university teachers in the department. In preparation for the office, Prof. Reicherter was already the deputy department spokesperson for two years. His term of office will be shaped primarily by the implementation of the new structural and development plan of the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering for the decade 2020-2030.
Prof. Reicherter will be supported in the leadership of the department by Prof. Neiberger, who will take over the office of deputy department spokesperson from 1 October 2022 and in this function will contribute the interests of geography in particular. However, this is not the only challenge Prof. Neiberger faces: On 1 October 2022, she was simultaneously elected as the new Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering.
In doing so, she takes over the function of Dean of Studies from Prof. Schwarzbauer, who held the office for the last four years (2018-2022) and was particularly concerned with the effects of the Corona crisis on teaching. During this time, he was significantly involved in many fundamental decisions at RWTH Aachen University to ensure the best possible teaching during the pandemic. In particular, it is thanks to his commitment that the field events could also be held during the pandemic. Prof. Schwarzbauer remains strongly connected to teaching by taking over the chairmanship of the examination committees for the Master's degree in "Georesource Management" and "Engineering Geohazards" from Prof. Reicherter.
The Department of Geosciences and Geography is looking forward to working with the new officers and would like to thank the departing members for their commitment during the turbulent last years.
