The Division of GuG is pleased that the petrographical microscopy laboratory is equipped with new teaching microscopes as of summer 2020. Under the direction of Professor Thomas Wagner from the Institute for Applied Mineralogy and Economic Geology, the old microscopes dating back 20 years are eventually retired.
The investment for this amounted to approx. 150 000 €, of which one third was financed from quality improvement funds, one third from HSP III funds of the department and one third from funds of the teaching units using the laboratory. A total of 20 Leica DM750P microscopes were purchased for training in transmitted and reflected light microscopy.
With these new microscopes, students of the Department can view mineral and ore sections in a new light. The group would like to thank Professor Wagner for implementing the urgently needed modernization and for his commitment to the sustainable improvement of the practice-oriented education of our students.
